Circumstances

Sustained fatal injuries when he was the observer in a police vehicle being driven along Thornton Street North, Collyhurst, when the vehicle was involved in a collision with a van parked on that road.

PC Main was the passenger within a police Morris Marina being driven along Thornton Street North, Collyhurst, when outside the Sparrow Inn a parked van was struck.

PC Main died from his injuries, the driver received hospital treatment for facial injuries.

Survived by his wife and young child.
