Roll of Honour Citation

Found drowned near Hampton Court after going missing from duty while searching for some important papers he had lost.

Inspector Dixon arrived on his horse at Hampton Police Station about 10:30pm asking a constable there to wire Teddington Police Station to determine if he’d left any papers there. The reply was that he had not and George then said “Oh, I must have lost them”.

He left about 10:45pm heading towards the village, saying that he would not be back before midnight and it was assumed he had gone looking for the missing papers.

His body was later found near Hampton Court and a doctor’s statement declared there were no marks of violence on the body and that death was due to suffocation caused by drowning.
