Died from the severe injuries he sustained when he was struck by a car while on duty the previous year.
Detective Sergeant Apps died in Sittingbourne from the severe injuries he sustained when he and two fellow officers were struck by a car while on duty on 22nd September 1915. The car carried George for fifty yards before it came to a halt.
He was immediately taken to St. Bartholomew’s Hospital in Rochester and subsequently underwent treatment at other hospitals but the incident rendered him practically bed-ridden for more than eight months prior to his death.
George was born in Ivychurch and joined Kent Constabulary in 1901. He was stationed in Sittingbourne for his entire police career.
