Died in Glasgow, fourteen months after he was shot in Edenderry, County Offaly, just before the midday cease-fire for the War for Independence.

Circumstances

He was ambushed and shot 8 times in the back whilst unarmed, on the Main Street of Edenderry Co Kildare, at 11.58am on the 17th of July 1921, the last bullet severed his spinal cord. The cease fire for the War for Independence being declared some two minutes later at 12pm. He was a paraplegic until his death in Glasgow.
