Fatally shot alongside a colleague when they were ambushed by terrorists while on foot patrol in Port Rush, County Antrim.
Nearing midnight the Main Street in Portrush was busy with late night revellers as Reserve Constables Armstrong and Robert James Bennett McLean patrolled their beat. Two gunmen approached them from behind and shot both officers in the head and back at close range, killing them instantly.
Frederick was stationed at Portrush Police Station and was married with two sons and a daughter.
