Circumstances

Whilst on duty on 13th April 1908 he hitched a ride on a horse and trap to travel between Whipsnade and Studham. The horse shied and Stanbridge was thrown from the trap and broke his leg. He was taken to the Bute Hospital at Luton but blood poisoning had developed and required the leg to be amputated, during the operation Stanbridge died.
