Died during an operation to amputate his leg, due to blood poisoning, after breaking his leg when, having hitched a ride on a horse and trap, the horse shied and he was thrown from the trap.

Died in Bute Hospital in Luton during an operation to amputate his leg, due to blood poisoning, after breaking his leg nine days earlier, on 13th April when, having hitched a ride on a horse and trap to travel between Whipsnade and Studham, the horse shied and he was thrown from the trap.
