Killed alongside a Temporary Cadet when their patrol was ambushed near Granard, County Longford. During WW1 he was awarded the Distinguished Service Order, the Distinguished Service Cross and the Distinguished Service Medal.

Killed alongside Temporary Cadet John A. Houghton when their patrol of two vehicles and seventeen men was ambushed at Ballinlee, near Granard, County Longford. Temporary Cadets George Bush and Harold Clayton both died two days later as a result of the same incident. During WW1 he was awarded the Distinguished Service Order, the Distinguished Service Cross and the Distinguished Service Medal.
