Fatally shot by terrorists whilst on patrol with a colleague in Rostrevor, County Down.

He was on mobile patrol with Reserve Constable Brian Alexander Quinn when they pulled up alongside a suspicious car outside the Post Office in Bridge Street, Rostrevor, County Down.

It was 11:00am when the terrorists in the suspicious car opened fire on the RUC officers, killing both.  It is believed that the terrorist gunmen planned to rob the Post Office until they were disturbed by the two officers.

Sgt Brown was buried with full police honours in Moira, County Down.
