Fatally shot, together with RIC Sergeant Frederick J. Frizelle, who also died on 4th May, and USC Special Constable Thomas J. Hunter, who died the previous day, when terrorist gunmen attacked their patrol as it returned from Ballyronan, near Magherafelt, County Londonderry.
