Circumstances

Fatally injured in a road traffic accident, while riding a police motorcycle as a member of the force Intelligence Support Team, when he collided with a kerb and was thrown from the machine at the Netherfield Roundabout, Milton Keynes.

PC de Burgh-Thomas died in Milton Keynes hospital an hour-and-a-half after sustaining multiple injuries when he was thrown from his police motorcycle as it struck a kerbstone at the Netherfield Roundabout on the A421, Standing Way, while involved in a high-speed pursuit.

Insufficient road warnings and a sign obscured by overgrown greenery were deemed to have contributed to the accident.

David, a married man, had for three years been a member of the Northern Area Intelligence Support Team based in Oxfordshire and had served with the force for twelve years, having started his career in Banbury.
