Killed while on duty at Hackney Downs Railway Station when, despite stepping off the line and standing by some girders, he was crushed by a train that caught him and dragged him under as he proceeded down the track to make contact with Metropolitan Police officers regarding the theft of a coat. He had previously served in the Metropolitan Police.
