Died suddenly while on duty during training having recently started to train to become a police dog handler.

At 09:25hrs on the morning of 14th March, as a student on the Police Dog Handler course, PC Higgins was laying some items on the ground so that officers could practise ‘tracking’ with their dogs.

Without warning, PC Higgins fell to the ground. His fellow students commenced CPR and contacted the control room / ambulance service.

A number of ARV officers attended along with the North West Ambulance Service and Air Ambulance. CPR continued at the scene, en route to Wythenshawe hospital and for a significant period of time after arriving there.

Unfortunately, at approximately 10:56hrs, doctors pronounced PC Higgins had died.
