Circumstances

Having reported for duty during an enemy air raid at St. Peter Port, he was tending to a seriously injured man at the harbour when a bomb exploded nearby and he was struck in the head by shrapnel and fatally injured.

At the time of the explosion PC Bougourd was tending to a seriously injured man at the harbour in St. Peter Port.
