Circumstances

With two colleagues he had stopped to question the occupants of a van parked in Braybrook Street near Wormwood Scrubs prison. DC Wombwell was shot by in the head by the front seat passenger of the van, DS Head ran back towards the police car but was also fatally shot.

DS Head was shot and killed, by the front-seat passenger of a van parked in Braybrook Street, near Wormwood Scrubs prison, as he ran back to his patrol car after seeing Temporary DC David Stanley Bertram Wombwell shot dead as the two officers questioned the van’s three occupants.

PC Geoffrey Roger Fox was also shot and killed as he attempted to drive away from the scene.
