Killed when a terrorist unit ambushed his seven-man mobile patrol at Inches Cross, Lisvernane, in the Glen of Aherlow, County Tipperary.
Two other Constables, Patrick Mackessy and Jeremiah O’Leary, were also killed in the ambush and Constable John Thomas Miller died from his injuries the following day.
