Roll of Honour Citation
Killed alongside a colleague when a wall collapsed as they were fighting a warehouse fire that ran out of control.
While fighting a warehouse fire on Juniper Street, and after becoming aware that a wall was about to collapse, Police Fireman Charles John Watts and his colleague and best friend, Police Fireman John Beer, attempted to escape the danger, but Charles stumbled and fell. As John attempted to rescue him the wall collapsed on to them and both men were killed.
Charles joined the force on on 30th April 1891.
Both officers are buried at Smithdown Cemetery (now known as Toxteth Park Cemetery).
