Fatally shot by terrorists whilst on patrol with a colleague in Rostrevor, Co. Down.
He was on mobile patrol with Sergeant Eric Brown when they pulled up alongside a suspicious car which was outside the Post Office in Bridge Street, Rostrevor, County Down.
It was 11am when the terrorists in the suspicious car opened fire on the RUC officers, killing both. Later believed that the terrorist gunmen planned to rob the Post Office until disturbed by Sgt Brown and R/Con Quinn.
R/Constable Quinn was buried with full police honours in Moira.
