Fatally shot by terrorists while on patrol with a colleague in Rostrevor, County Down.
Reserve Constable Quinn was on mobile patrol with Sergeant Eric Brown when, about 11:00am, they pulled up alongside a suspicious car outside the Post Office in Bridge Street, Rostrevor, County Down. The men in the car then opened fire on the RUC officers, killing both.
It is believed that the terrorist gunmen planned to rob the Post Office until they were disturbed by the two officers.
Brian was buried with full police honours in Moira, County Down.
