Died from the injuries he sustained while travelling to report for night duty, when his motorcycle was in collision with a car.
Died in Bromley Hospital shortly after sustaining multiple injuries when, at 10:15pm, on the Kent Gate Way, his motorcycle was struck by a car travelling in the opposite direction, on the wrong side of the road, as Berin travelled from his home in East Malling to report for duty at Addington police station.
The driver of the car was subsequently found guilty of causing death by dangerous driving.
In September 2012, in a ceremony hosted by the South West Area Commander and the Croydon Borough Commander, the custody centre on Windmill Road, Croydon, was formally named Berin Underwood House in honour and memory of the officer.
