Roll of Honour Citation

One of sixteen RIC officers killed when their patrol was ambushed by terrorists near Macroom, County Cork.

Killed alongside a District Inspector and fourteen Temporary Cadets when their auxiliary division mobile patrol was ambushed by a large terrorist unit at Dus a’ Bharraigh, in the townland of Shanacashel, Kilmichael Parish, near Macroom, County Cork. Temporary Cadet Cecil James Guthrie who escaped the incident, was caught and shot two days later.
