PC Marsh died in Fleetwood Cottage Hospital from the injuries he sustained five months earlier, on 23rd August 1897 when, after being drafted in from Salford during the Fleetwood Docks Strike, he was thrown down the ship’s hold while tackling a disorderly male onboard the SS Ormesby.
