Killed alongside eight other officers when Newry RUC Station came under heavy mortar attack by terrorists and the canteen was destroyed by a direct hit.

Chief Inspector Donaldson’s brother, Constable Samuel Donaldson, died on 12th August 1970, after being fatally injured by a terrorist booby-trap bomb.
