Died in Dr. Steevens’ Hospital, Dublin, as a result of kidney disease brought on by a brain injury that he sustained fourteen years earlier when, on 11th October 1864, he was struck on the head by a stone while on duty in Dungarvan, County Waterford. Despite multiple head pains and subsequent fits Sergeant Anderson continued to serve before being declared unfit for duty after suffering a fit while attending a fire in December 1874.
