Found shot dead with a humane killer in his office at Horley Police Station.
He was found dead within in his office in Horley Police Station having sustained head injuries. A humane killer normally kept in the safe was near his body.
The inquest held at Reigate recorded an open verdict, noting a wound in his forehead consistent with being fire from the humane killer.
He was survived by his wife and their two daughters. He was due to retire the following year after 30 years service and was to take up a post at Gatwick Airport.
