Fatally shot alongside his colleague when they were ambushed by terrorists while on foot patrol.

He was on foot patrol with Reserve Constable Frederick Armstrong in Main Street, Portrush.

Nearing midnight the Main Street was busy with late night revellers as the officers patrolled their beat. Two gunmen approached them from behind and shot both officers in the head and back at close range, killing them instantly.

He was stationed at Portrush Police Station.

He was married with a son and a daughter.
