Died from the wounds he sustained two years earlier when, on 31st May 1922, he and a colleague were ambushed and shot by two terrorist gunmen.
Died from the wounds he sustained two years earlier when, about 4.25pm on 31st May 1922, he and Constable Andrew Roulston were ambushed and shot at point-blank range by two terrorist gunmen as they patrolled their beat in Millfield, Belfast, near the corner of Peter’s Hill. Constable Roulston died on the day of the attack.
