Circumstances

Having fought in the Great War the Scotsman joined the Royal Irish Constabulary instead of returning to his native Glasgow.

Stationed in the Bridge Street Barracks in Dundalk he left the barracks late in the evening and cycled along the Newry Road. He was shot twice, one of the rounds passing through his heart and killing him instantly.
