Shot dead after being captured by terrorists while on duty near Nenagh, County Tipperary.

Shot dead along with his colleague, Constable Joseph Daly, after being captured by terrorists while on duty near Nenagh, County Tipperary. Their bodies were then thrown into a bog in Clooneen, in the parish of Cloughjordan, but were recovered four years later. Constable Gallivan was subsequently buried in an unmarked grave in Ardcroney cemetery and in 2019 the Cloughjordan Heritage Group placed a headstone on the officer’s grave.
