Whilst out walking on the 21 November 1920 he was shot by the occupants of a passing car. He was taken to the Central Military Hopsital within Victoria Barracks in Cork where he died from his injuries.

Died in the Central Military Hospital within Victoria Barracks in Cork, five weeks after being shot by the occupants of a passing car while off duty walking on 21st November.
