Died the day after being fatally wounded when a terrorist unit ambushed his seven-man mobile patrol at Inches Cross, Lisvernane, in the Glen of Aherlow, County Tipperary.

Three other Constables, Charles William Buntrock, Patrick Mackessy and Jeremiah O’Leary were killed in the ambush the previous day.
