Shot dead while on barracks duty when he answered the door.

Shot dead in a scuffle at Ballivor Barracks, County Meath, at approximately 10:00pm, as he attempted to bar the door when three men rushed in after he had opened it to a man giving the name of a local farmer and claiming his cattle had been stolen.
