On 14 October he was with other police officers when they stopped a group of men removing crops and livestock, they were fired upon and he died from his injuries.

Died eight days after being shot and fatally wounded when he and other officers were fired on after stopping a group of armed men from removing crops and livestock. His colleague, Sub-Constable Patrick Mortimer, was killed during the incident.
