Circumstances

Parked in lay-by on the A42 near Worthington, preparing to assist in stopping a speeding vehicle that had been pursued by police from Solihull in the West Midlands, in the early hours; the suspect, who was drunk, deliberately rammed the police vehicle, he sustained fatal injuries and died at the scene.

Killed when he and his colleague, PC Bryan Reginald Moore, who died in hospital later the same day, were preparing to assist in stopping a speeding van being pursued by police from Solihull in the West Midlands, when the driver, who was drunk, deliberately rammed their police vehicle as they waited in a layby on the A42 near Worthington in the early hours.
