Shot dead by terrorist gunmen when he and Constable William Herbert Turbitt were ambushed while sitting in their patrol car at Sturgan Brae, overlooking Camlough Reservoir, County Armargh. His colleague was abducted and found dead on 10th July at a derelict border farm at Crossmaglen.
