Drowned while attempting to rescue the crew from an RAF bomber aircraft that had crashed into the sea. Posthumously awarded the King’s Commendation for Brave Conduct.

Drowned, along with ten other people, while making several unsuccessful attempts to rescue the three-man crew from an RAF bomber aircraft that had crashed into the sea off Rhosneigr during a gale. PC Arthur was in the second of four boats launched, all of which capsized in the stormy seas. Posthumously awarded the King’s Commendation for Brave Conduct.
