Circumstances

After police received a call about a man loose in the town with a shotgun they began searching. In Bank Street they traced the man who upon seeing police brought the shotgun up and fired on them. Sergeant Gibson was killed and his colleagues injured.

Shot and killed after police received a call about a man loose in the town with a shotgun. Having located him in Bank Street the man raised his shotgun and fired on two officers, killing Sergeant Gibson and injuring his colleague.
