On Friday 20th September 2013 he was engaged in a speed enforcement operation in the Sutton area of South London when he motioned for the driver of a speeding car to stop, the vehicle struck him and drove off. Sustaining serious injuries he was taken to hospital but was unable to recover from the injuries caused.

Died in hospital from the serious injuries he sustained two days earlier when he was engaged in a speed enforcement operation on the A217, Reigate Avenue, Sutton, South London, and was struck by a speeding vehicle which failed to stop after he indicated to the driver to do so.
